The Beginning of Imtiaz Super Market was in the year 1955 by Mr.Hakim Khan Abbasi, father of Mr.Imtiaz Hussain Abbasi. The initial step was to start with a small store which contained general items of day to day use. At that stage the sale was approx 3000/- per day with a turnover of 50-60 per day customers. This store was in a small commercial area in Bahadurabad, Karachi and main customer source was the people residing in the neighborhood.
Mr.Imtiaz Hussain also joined his father as a helping hand in very early stage of life. Then a striking moment came in 1978 when Mr.Imtiaz Hussain went to Singapore and he came across a super store named as ‘Mustafa Store’ over there. At that time he made his mind to develop his store into a proper super store. He also planned to launch his own brands as well. At that time the brand ‘Ponam’ was introduced and all the major products such as Rice, Spices, Sugar, Beans etc., for which he had maintained his own quality were brought in with this brand and came famous in the locality very soon. Mr.Imtiaz Hussain has a very versatile personality, he always looked into things at different angle as we may also know from this brand name ‘Ponum’ which basically is a name of an Indian flower.
The Rice Processing Mill was another need of the store as the quality had to be maintained in huge volume due to high customer demand and in the year 1997 this vital step was taken and a rice processing unit was started in the Korangi Industrial Area, Karachi.
As the time went on the volume of customers increased due the recognition of store amongst many people for its quality and very low prices. To facilitate the customers there was a need of further extension in the store which begun in the year 1998. Simultaneously launching of a new store was also taken into action.
The Second branch named as IMTIAZ II came into being in the year 2003 at a very key location in the city on Main Shahrah-e-Faisal, in a project known as Awami Markaz. Not only the residing people in the area but many more cherished the availability of this store and a huge response was given which helped a lot in boosting up the sales and growth of Imtiaz Super Market in upcoming years.
